ReplyI think no of unpaired electron in k2NiF6 should be 4 because F is weak field ligand.

In case of K2NIF6, oxidation state of Ni is +4, and system is d6 octahedral system.
ReplyThough F- is a weak feild ligand but due to large positive charge on Ni, the energy gap between T2g and Eg orbitals is quite high. Thus it is easier to pair 4th electron in T2g orbital rather than filling it in eg orbital.
Hence its electronic configuration becomes t2g ^6 and eg°
Number of unpaired electrons is zero not 4
